Wang Jue Kitten Crush

About This Shock Site

Maker: Wang Jue
Type: Shock video
Date: March 2006

Wang Jue Kitten Crush (also known as the Kitten Killer of Luobei) is an infamous shock video that emerged on the Chinese internet in March 2006. The footage depicts extreme animal cruelty and stands as one of the first documented instances in which an online community launched a large-scale "witch hunt" (or act of cyber-vigilantism) to uncover the perpetrator's identity.

Content[edit | edit source]

The video begins with an Asian woman caressing a small kitten on a riverbank. She is wearing a light-colored outfit and high-heeled, stiletto heeled shoes. After a while, the woman’s behavior changes abruptly; she places the kitten on the ground and begins to deliberately step on it with her stiletto heels. The video lasts for several minutes and captures the killing of the animal in detailed, close-up shots. At the end of the clip, the woman presses her heel directly onto the kitten’s head, crushing it completely. Throughout the entire sequence, calm, melancholic music plays in the background.

Individuals and Investigation[edit | edit source]

The video sparked unprecedented outrage among users of Chinese online forums (notably Mop.com). Activists banded together to form what is known as a "human flesh search engine" in order to unmask the individuals involved. Based on the background, landscape features, and vehicle license plates, it was determined that the video was filmed on Minshan Island in Luobei County (Heilongjiang Province). The woman in the shot turned out to be Wang Jue, who worked as a nurse at a local hospital. The filming was conducted by Li Xuemin, an employee of a local television station. It turned out that the video was created for a commercial website, crushworld.net, which distributed fetish content involving the brutal killing of small animals (crush fetish).

Consequences[edit | edit source]

Wang Jue and Li Xuemin were subjected to intense harassment, both online and in real life. Their personal information, including home addresses and phone numbers, was leaked and made publicly available. Bowing to public pressure, both individuals lost their jobs and were compelled to issue formal letters of apology. Because China lacked strict criminal legislation regarding the protection of domestic animals from cruelty at the time (and for a long time thereafter), those involved in the incident did not face formal imprisonment; however, their careers and reputations were completely destroyed.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The video is featured on MDPOPE 1 as the 43rd clip.
