FunkyTown, often called FunkyTown Gore, among other variations, for clarity, is a shock video that is first known to have been uploaded to Kaotic.com and documentingreality.com on September 26th, 2016, into kaotic by a user named PinkFloyd who titled the video "Shocking: Rival Gang Member Flayed, Tortured, and Beheaded" and documenting reality by a user named Etsu who titled the post "Trying to Behead Still Alive Faceless Handless Man". The video was filmed by either a Mexican street gang or a Mexican drug cartel.

Content

FunkyTown is a 2-minute and 50-second-long video of a young man being savagely tortured and tied up in a white-tiled, mostly empty room, while jarringly upbeat techno-style music plays in the background. The man is seen lying on the ground with his arms and legs tied up with what appears to be an extension cord. The man has his hands cut off at the wrists, his face skinned off, resulting in a bloody skull, and his eyes gouged out while he lies in a pool of blood and screams and gurgles in pain while the murderers laugh at him. The man manages to get his arms untied and tries to reach for his face. The murderers slit the man's throat with a sickle and a box-cutter and shove a pole down his mouth. The victim was never connected to an IV with drugs to keep him awake, the man was tied up with a white cable/rope by the perpetrators so he cannot escape.

Many viewers consider FunkyTown to be one of the worst gore videos online. The mysterious yet jarring nature of the video has sent some viewers looking for answers to questions such as where this video was filmed and who the man being tortured was. It is unknown who any of the people in the video are, including the man who is being tortured. The video does not capture the final moments when they end up completely killing the man. The torture was likely part of an execution; like many Mexican criminal organizations, they'll execute people in the most brutal way possible. The myth that the man being tortured in the video was a "poor avocado farmer" has been discussed and debated. Some commenters have claimed to have watched an extended version of FunkyTown on the deep web, although there is no proof of any such video existing. The accents heard in the video point to it originating in the Michoacán area.

On February 14th, 2021, a video titled "Hi" was uploaded to goretube.net by a user named UzeeeT. This clip is yet another drug cartel gore video but has an eerily similar setting to FunkyTown. In the video, some cartel members decapitate a man and play soccer with his head in a familiar-looking, white-tiled, mostly empty room. The people behind FunkyTown may also be behind this video. It's also possible that there are more murder videos out there that take place in that same dreaded room, filmed by the murderers who made FunkyTown. On July 16th, 2023, FunkyTown was uploaded to YouTube by a user named Mr Bist who titled the video "Funkytown gore low quality.mp4", albeit in low quality. The video remained on the site for seven months and accumulated 54,000 views before it was taken down by YouTube on March 15th, 2024.

On September 11th, 2026, youtuber Disturbed Reality with the help from a subscriber of his found the aftermath of the victim from a news report outlet called Digital Guerrero about a dismembered person found in Acapulco, Guerrero on the night of 11th September 2016. The news report has 2 graphic blurred images of the victim's head, his severed arms and a part of his flayed face.

On October 7th, 2026, watchpeopledie user poegab made a post about the funkytown victim's aftermath and while scrolling down he mentioned that youtuber ShockChan found the image of the severed arms but in a bigger view and another photo, but this time of the victim's torso and the legs via a newspaper website. The images are in the 6th page.

• Several songs can be heard in the background before Funkytown by Lipps Inc., including Put Your Hands Up by Dj Toys, Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses, More Than A Woman by Bee Gees, Recuerdos de Una Noche by Los Pasteles Verdes and Beat It by Michael Jackson.
• The reason why the video is named "FunkyTown" is because the song with the same name by Lipps Inc. can be heard playing in the background ambiance at the end, hence the name.
• FunkyTown was included in the shock mixtape MDPOPE [Most Disturbed Person on Planet Earth] 3.
• Scroll Down also featured a low-quality GIF version of the video right before the name "FunkyTown" was attributed.
